Glue on dash pads.

Just looking for opions on dash pad covers vs a new dash pad.

obviously price is much different

How well do the covers go on and do they last.
My first impulse is to say you get what you pay for .
Am I right?

If you are talking about those plastic glue on dash covers (like cover-lay) they are fantastic for the price. You have to look really close to tell they arent the real thing. Mine is almost a year old and still looks great but I used to work next door to a company that all they did was sell and install them and they had very little trouble with them
I recommend them for the majority of restorations

They don't look bad, I just never liked the hard plastic feel of them. It's a nice alternative if your's is cracked, and you don't feel like paying $600-$800 for a new one.

They are OK but obviously aren't like the replacement pads. I guess it's up to what you can afford at the time. I went for the replacement through Lengendary for the Chally, but used the plastic cover for the Runner clone. Either way I'd say you must remove the dash for the best fit and ease of installation. Also let me recomend that you use the adhesive ONLY around the edges of the cover and all openings  within it. DO NOT use the glue on the top portion that faces the windshield (except around the defroster vents and speaker) ! This plastic has to move with the heat and cooling of sun/shade. If you glue it solid it will bulge and probably crack between glue spots because it can not flex with the temperature change. Also some triming may be necessary and give ample time for the adhesive to cure, I also used long strips of cloth to tie/secure the cover as the glue was curring, be patient, wait at least 24 hours before reinstalling the dash. The plastic covers do look nice enough, just not like the replacement, but there is at least $400.00 price difference too,lol.

If you don't have AC, they might be good. I bought one, but it really dosn't fit around the AC vents or the serial number tag. You can file down the AC vents to "make it work", but the depression for them to fit into isn't as chrisp as the original. And also, once you file them down there's no goin back.

I just bought one of these glue on dash caps.  You mention that the dash should be removed for best fit.  How hard and what is involved to remove the dash on a 70 Cuda?

OMG!!!   :stomp: :stomp: :stomp:  It's NO day at the beach. The gauges, ash tray, and glove box liner have to come out. The 3 speed nuts up closest to the window are the toughest to get to. There is one right between the defroster vents that I could see, but had no hope of even touching(my car had AC ducts). So, I removed all the speednuts except that one. I got between the two front seats. I picked the dash up on each end. I pulled. I twisted. I yanked. Finally that lone speednut gave way. Of course, at this point I'm now laying in the back seat looking up at the dashpad in my hands. :laughing: So, no, it isn't easy. I've heard it's easier if you have your windshield out, but that was out of the question for me. Hey, in all seriousness, if I could do it, so could anyone.  :thumbs:
