Newbie Challenger Owner Decoding Question
« on: September 25, 2016 - 02:02:10 PM »
I'm getting ready to take possession of a 1972 Challenger and I need help with a few codes. I used the mymopar.com website to decode most of the car. I have questions about the following:

B6F6
000
398024

I've attached image of car. Should the code plate include the black hood ?
Thank you for any help I can get.

The black hood was NOT available past 1971.

B6F6 is green vinyl bucket seats
000 is NO upper door frame paint
398024 is the Vehicle Order Number

Thank you for the feedback. Well I guess someone painted the hood to a 1971 spec because they liked it? Thank you for the help on the codes. Looking forward to picking up the Challenger next weekend. If you don't mind can I ask what the EN2 Code means at the top left of the plate?

All the best!!

B6F6  Green Bucket Seats
000 Full Door Panels/No paint code for upper door
398024 is the Vehicle Order Number

As Alan said the black out wasn't available but it's got the 70 style blackout not the 71..

Thank you for the feedback. As I continue to dig it appears as though the side stripe V6X was changed out for the front fender side scoops with black graphics? Was there a code for these?

"JS" means it's a rally car which means the side vents were part of that package, as is the rally dash and hood etc...

V6X means it got the black strobe stripes down the sides.

Added "hood black-out" is quite common, most likely not paint, but a vinyl decal. :2cents:

So Alan, does that mean that a JH car would not have the Rallye dash, hood and side vents?

Interesting. My car is JH but has those three rallye features. Now I'm wondering if they were all switched in later which could well be the case. I've emailed the original owner, I'm the fourth, to see what he can tell me.

wesleyw, I'm not meaning to hijack your thread but it got me thinking about this stuff. I just assumed my 74 was always a Rallye car but maybe not. Congratulations on your purchase. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I get out of mine.

A JH car in 72 wouldn't have the side louvers.  That was Rallye only.  The louvers were "standard" but there was a code to delete them.  Rallye gauges were standard on Rallye and were an available option on JH.  The hood I'm not sure about.  Another member has a 72 NON Rallye 340 car and he has the scooped hood.(no side louvers)  I don't know if the hood was available on a JH 318 car or if the 340 engine gave you that hood.  I thought I read something awhile ago that said the Rallye hood was standard with the 340 option.  I haven't been able to find it again though.

1972 Rallye(JS) was a separate model.  The grill should be black and the tail panel treatment is one year only.(black tail panel with argent around the tail lights) Standard engine is the 318 with the 340 being optional.

1973-74 the Rallye is no longer a separate model but a "package" on the base model.  All VINs are JH.  Standard engine for the Rallye package is still the 318.(340-360 optional depending on year) Non Rallye package grills are silver/gray...Rallye package grills are black.  Tail panel paint treatment is the same on all Challengers...argent tail panel with black organisol around the tail lights.  If a 73-74 car has the Rallye package, it will have code A57 on the fender tag.

Blown motor, burdar, and anlauto thank you so much for all the productive feedback. I'm feeling more confident about the spec's. on our Challenger.
