Just installed a 1967 B body 8 3/4 rear end under the wife's Challenger.
I discovered the aftermarket axle shafts were previously used with a spool and are 1/2" too long.
In discussing this with Dr. Diff he gave me the correct length for the axles and suggested just cutting the very end off the axles. The axles have 3 1/2" of splined area on the end so no resplining is needed.
In contacting a local rear end shop about cutting the axle shafts they told me cutting down the axle shafts was not recommended as they are hardened and it will weaken the axles.
In doing some research I'm finding the splined end of the axle shaft that goes into the differential is not a stress point as everything is splined together so cutting the very end of the axle shafts is not an issue?
Thanks for any opinions and/or suggestions.
