« on: August 28, 2017 - 11:28:54 PM »
Hi guys, my left muffler went tonight on my 74 cuda and i need new mufflers and i want louder one but wich one  :dunno:

I have a 340 .030 bore, bigger cam than stock wich one i dont know just bought the car,  long tube headers, 2'' 1/2  dual exhaust but no h or x-pipe and cat back goes trough the the valence.
Now i dont know what are the current mufflers on the car but the are oval not rectagle like flowmaster or dynomax and the sound was not to bad but not loud enough.

that is what she sounded like before the muffler went :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xroSbxRFODQ

I really like the one in this video it says dynomax race magnums ultraflow but i dont know the part number and that would be my number one choice : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aiKrwGXFOo

I like the flowmaster 40 series too

The one i have on right now you couldn't here them in the car and didn't like that

So what do you guys think ?

Sorry if there is some error i am french  :grinyes:

Where are the mufflers located right now?  The factory put the mufflers at the back, on either side of the gas tank.  Aftermarket exhaust systems usually put the mufflers in front of the rear end.  Here is what the factory system looked like.  Accurate has a line of performance mufflers if you want to go that route.

Mufflers are a very subjective thing.  One person will really like the sound of a particular muffler and another person will think it sounds like garbage.  The first thing to do is determine where you are going to place the mufflers.(in front of the rear end or along side the gas tank)  That will determine what shape you will need.

If you are going to put the mufflers in front of the axle, look into a Flowmaster 50 series.  The 40 series will be really loud.  Some people end up putting an extra resonator on to quiet down the 40 series.  Also look into Magnaflow mufflers.  Theirs are a straight through design and are made out of stainless steel.

How is the rest of the exhaust system?  If one muffler just went bad, maybe the entire system needs to be replaced.  Accurate exhaust has complete factory style exhaust systems.  Those systems won't be "mandrel" bent though.  TTI, Magnaflow, Summit Racing all make mandrel bent exhaust systems for E-bodes.  You have lots of choices.

If they end up being too loud, you can install some smaller resonators on either side of the gas tank to quiet it down.

Burdar made a good suggestion. Check out Magnaflow SS. I've run them. Magnaflows have a deep mellow sound that is not noisy and not quiet.
