Finally got the trim off... tool of choice......  putty knife.

I had the correct tool, but it seems the trim was never taken off before so they were wedged in the tar strip EXTREMELY tight. No WAY could i slip the tool in between.

Anways, I had no bends, dings or scrapes.. whew!!

 Here's to everyone on this thread.. awesome group. I'm thankfull to have such a willing knowledge base here. Stay tuned for more questions!!

Don't try prying the tail trim off. Look inside the trunk, there you will find the 3/8" nuts holding the clips and trim on. There are nuts across the deck lid and inside the trunk at the top rear of the quarters. If you have vinyl top mouldings, there is a combo of clips that will snap loose and also clips with the nuts which you will have to get from the insice of the rear quarters and from the trunk.

I think you're talking about the outer trim on 72-74's. On the 70-71's the tail trim goes around inside the deck lid.. just outside the tail light housings.

Mine is a 71 style trim.

Man this thread was helpful.  I just got done taking off my rear window trim and it went smooth.  I couldn't find one of the proper tools, so I comprimised with this gasket scraper I already had.  Someone repainted my car yellow, and my clips are yellow, so its possible that the trim has already been removed before, therefore making it so easy.  :dunno: Now, gotta search for window removal tips....
