Ignition recommendations!
« on: October 23, 2016 - 02:22:07 PM »
Looking to get my ignition system for my motor ironed out.   It's a 340 six, basically stock.  What's the recommendations or there? It had a Mallory points distributor and stock the rest.

IMO factory type is best , you can buy a better dist from Firecore or the newer Mopar ones from Mancini which are fully adjustable & connect a RevNator ECU & a premium coil & it will work as welll as anything out there , Mancini should have a kit with dist , ECU , coil all in one

I have seen too many issues with MSD
if you use stock system spare parts are easy at any parts store or carry spares to get you home
A friend got towed home 300 miles , cannot remember what the tow bill was but the MSD was less than 1 month old

And on the other end, I had a second hand $50 MSD 6A run flawlessly for 7 years until I removed it for the Hemi swap. :dunno:

I replaced points with the revnnator and at the time they recommended an Accell distributor which I used.
Works well. They now show using a Firecore distibutor on their website.

I have heard horror stories about MSD, but i personally have never had an issue, that being said i chose msd because i am using their EFI and i am comfortable with there installation, troubleshooting, upgrades are easily done. not to mention the 6AL2 box is small and easy to hide and i want a clean firewall. I have never dealt with firecore, revnator stuff, but i am sure it is great! so i would look at budget and what you are trying accomplish
