Standard Cuda gauge cluster restore tips
« on: October 25, 2016 - 08:33:41 PM »
I am restoring the standard gauge cluster for a 1973 Barracuda. The bezel is in good shape but needs a refresh.  I washed the plastic with a mild detergent but is still seems a bit "cloudy".  What do folks do with the black and that silver lip?  Is there a recommended paint?

Sem landau black is what alot of people seem to use. For the silver stripe i used an argent silver on my horn cap  "testors" from the hobby store. Came in a 1/2oz bottle and applied it with an 1/8" artist brush. May not look oem but good enough for me

It depends on how steady your hands are.  You could use a silver Sharpie marker.  That's what I used for the silver border around the dash emblem bezel.  Another option is to tape off the area and spray the lip.

Spray the SEM Landau black first.  Then, mask off the area.  Don't worry about getting the tape right up to the edge when you mask.  Leave it long.  Once it's all taped up, use a NEW razor blade and trim the tape off flush with the edge.  Use a couple light coats of paint so it doesn't bleed through the tape.  You could probably use a chrome spray paint.  Since it's such a small area, it will still look decent.
