Door Rattles
« on: October 29, 2016 - 07:06:26 PM »
I have a rattle in my doors, maybe coming from the locking mechanism. It's diminished when I lock the doors, but it's still there. Any ideas on it origin? I imagine it's a common occurrence in these older cars.

Originally the lock rods are covered with a heavy cloth tube to dampen rattles...  I've used foam to wrap the rods, I've seem springs used to put tension on the rods... Whatever it takes...

I used shoelaces. There are heavy duty shoelaces for work boots that have an inner and outer component. Cut the lace end, pull out the inner part (gut) and you are left with a nice expandable cloth tube that you can slip over the lock rods. Under $5 per door.  :2cents:
