Engine hesitation at WOT
« on: November 07, 2016 - 11:32:55 AM »
Hey gang! Its been a while.
For those that don't know, I have a 73 Challenger.
My engine is mated toa 360 engine and 727 trans. I am running a Lokar kickdown cable, Edlebrock 650 Carb, Edelbrock Performer II intake, Mopar Electrical ignition. I have a New coil, new starter, new dizzy, new VR, new wiring (only 8 yrs old) New hard fuel delivery line, new fuel filter.
A month ago I replaced the trans, redid the exhaust, and went through the car tooth and nail.
Although this car season has been relatively short for me, I am certainly trying pretty hard to get the last few bugs out.
I've started to notice a few reliability/drivability bugs.
Driving the car on the freeway, I noticed it stumbled at WOT on the freeway. Not a good thing if you are getting on it to merge into traffic!
The stumble happens at about 50. When I back off the gas it goes away.
any ideas on what to check?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

high speed stumble for me turned out to be dirty distributor cap contacts
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

I had the same stumble, it was the cap and rotor. easy cheap replacement and I was back to normal.

The air door is weighted not sprung so there is no adjustment unless it is a Thunder series
low float level is another possibilty
