Headman Pro Touring Mid Length Headers - Issues??
« on: December 29, 2016 - 01:18:26 AM »
I recently purchased my second 70 Cuda and it has Doug's headers. Great headers but my car is lowered and the streets in New Orleans are horrible. The headers are sitting way to low which is also forcing the rest of the exhaust to sit about 2 inches away from the floors. I want to keep the car low but in order to do so I have to change the headers and rework the exhaust. My last Cuda was lowered and had Headman Pro Touring mid length headers on it when I purchased it. I was always careful driving but I did not have ground clearance issues with these. My muffler shop looked at every other LT header out there including TTI but they all had the same issue I now have with the Doug's long tubes. I have a Magnum Force suspension and already reached out to them about possibly going to shorties but found out that they already tried that several times and found that they had steering shaft clearance issues.

I was just wondering if anyone had installed the Headman headers on a big block and if they had any issues?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had Hedman shorty headers on my challenger (stock K frame); had to clearance the drivers side by the steering box. I swapped them for Schumacher tri-Y headers; MUCH better in fit and low end power.
Current Mopar
70 Challenger RT 440-6 EFI, 73 Cuda 416-6 EFI
05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

Big block I assume?

If not worried about all out hp, get the Schumachers.

TTI does not make headers that clear?

Headman shorties too.

I have a lowered Cuda running a 472 Hemi with the same issue.  I had to have  a set of custom headers built to solve the problem. Collector is now flat with 4 tubes into 1 instead of 2x2 stacked.

Custom headers was looking like my only option until the other members suggested I look at Schumacher Tri-Y system. This is the best alternative I have seen to date. I do appreciate the advice but going this route will save me a grand vs custom built and get me the ground clearance I need.

shows HP loss.  20HP loss due to the shorties is worth it IMHO if you value ground clearance.
