Ground straps

A question for you restoration guys...I have a '70 Challenger RT N code motor with air. Did Mopar ever attach ground straps to the exhaust manifolds? The passenger side goes from the exhaust to the fender. The driver's side goes from the exhaust to the frame. Don't know if that is a previous owner attachment or did that actually come that way from the factory. Thanks.

The only ground strap on a 1970 383 would be with the negative battery cable. The large cable bolts to the engine, a small cable bolts to the rad support and of course they both connect to the battery as one.

No other ground cables

Sometime in 73, they added another ground cable from the back of the cylinder head to the firewall.  They must have seen a need for it or they wouldn't have gone to the expense.  It wouldn't hurt to add one.  I'm sure you could find a way to hide it if you want it to look stock.

Thanks guys. It just didn't look right to me. The wires have been there for awhile. One wire is missing about 1/3 of the insulation. If anything, I'll look into replacing them with better wiring and try to hide them. The goal is to be stock appearing. Thanks again.

When it comes to electrical, you can never have too many grounds. Unless looking correct is more important...

The factory ground strap mention above was a flat braided wire mesh with no insulation running from the head to the firewall. It was not a typical 12ga insulated copper wire. They are pretty unobtrusive looking if you wanted to add one.
