90 degree oil filter adapter 1970 318
« on: January 11, 2017 - 07:54:55 AM »
So my 70 Challenger doesn't have a 90 degree oil filter adapter. One is listed in the 70 mopar parts catalog, but I am not sure if all 318 cars got one.  Can anyone confirm this for me ?

Here's one on Flea-Bay.

thanks
Chris

Are you sure you need one? When I bought my 74 Challenger with a 340 it had the adapter. It always seemed to have a very slight leak, just couldn't get it to totally seal. We took it off and have never looked back. I don't see any need for it unless the oil filter is interfering with something else.

My 318 originally did not come with that adapter. I installed one so that the oil filter would clear the cheap headers I put on at that time. Have since got rid of the headers but left the adapter on. No leaks in my case.

Never came on 318s.  You don't need them unless they interfere w/your manifolds/headers.

I just care about originality. I am going through a lot of trouble making my Panther Pink 70 Challenger look factory correct and I don't want to miss something that is that obvious to spot.

Alan, is that the same for 340s? My engine is not original and it had the adapter. Perhaps it came out of an A body.  :dunno:

As far as I know....70-71 E Body 340's got it, 318's did not. 70-71 A Body 318's & 340's both got it.

In an E Body, once the exhaust manifolds changed in 71 there was no need for it.
