Okay One More Time
« on: June 27, 2005 - 06:25:52 PM »
Okay guys, well I've changed my mind for now and I have decided to make my car more of a street cruiser and highway driving. Anyways, thinking about switching out the carb to something different. I currently am leaning toward an Eddy Thunder Series Carb 800 cfm carb but, I know everyone has their preferences on Holley. I'm not proficient at tuning carb so would the Holley or Eddy be better for highway driving because most shows and meet I would drive too is at least 100 miles away. I also thought about a 650 but, I know that would be under carbed as the 2x cid rule so 383x2 is 766 cfm minimum especially have a bored out motor
Here's my current setup:

69 383 bored .010 over
HP Manifolds
Road Runner Cam
Edelbrock Performer Dual Plane Intake
2 1/2 Exhaust I believe
Taylor 8mm Wires
MSD Coil
Electric Fan
Edelbrock Performer 750 cfm carb
Stock Bottom End
3.55 gears
B&M Shift kit with Shifter
Stock Converter

Let me know what you guys think I should change out in addition to the carb without tearing into the motor.

I doubt you will see a significant gain going from a Eddy Performer to a Eddy Thunder carb especially if you are not Tuning the carbs
, the size of the carb really has little effect on milage , if the carb is tuned properly you should get decent milage , , often using annular boosters increases the effeciency of the carb by mixing the fuel better

"often using annular boosters increases the effeciency of the carb by mixing the fuel better" Chryco but, I'm a little lost with what you said. Please keep in mind I'm a newbie so if you could explain everything I need to know about carbs that would be great or if some of you other folks want to enlighten me.

That's about the same 383 setup I have in my Coronet. The main difference is I still have a stock 4bbl intake on it. Just a quick note on the carbs, I have a 650 Edelbrock on it and I had a 780 Holley on it for a while. The car actually got better miieage w/ the 780 and had a lot more git-up.

Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't mind going to a Holley since my dad has a 700 CFM Double Pumper on his 340 Charger but, I don't think it would adapt well to an Edelbrock Intake.

It should fit on the Eddy intake but a double pumper might be a little much on an automatic car. Vacuum secondary Holley would work better.

I'd go with a Holley vacuum secondary on your setup.
