Where are you guys mounting the gauge in the interior?
Would like somewhere visible, but not to obvious.

I would think after a short tune period, you hardly ever look at it again?

I think they say within 24" of the head in a tube common to all cylinders.

That would be pretty much in the collector, wouldn't it? 
Since I don't want to mess up my coated headers, I was going to put the bungs in the collector adapter.

That's a good idea...my headers are coated roo and didn't want to mess them up either....plus it's probably easier to remove the collector adaptor fRon the car than the header to do the welding.....
