Shaker hood question
« on: December 18, 2016 - 10:44:51 PM »
I want to put a shaker hood on my cuda.   Do I need to change the wiper motor from
The original 2 speed to 3 speed.  If so.   Can I just change the motor or does the arms
And switch need to be changed also.  I am not sure what all is required to make everything
Work.

I don't think a shaker hood is affected by the wiper motor or arms.     :clueless:

Doesn't the wiper motor interfere with the shaker bubble though?

Yes, you are correct. You'll have to change the entire wiper system, the motor, transmission arms, switch to a three speed system. The two speed motor will hit the air cleaner or at least come very close. You could probably notch the air cleaner base. :dunno:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

I'm not sure if the arms are different between three and two speed set ups but the pivot piece that connects the arm to the motor shaft is unique to three speed e bodies. Those pivots alone are like $100.00 plus. Correct 70-71 e body wiper motors are also very pricey.

I hear the 72-74 three speed Components are different but I don't know if the difference is part numbers only or if they are physically different. I have a vague recollection that the later three speed wiper motor has a different size shaft but not sure on that. Point is, If the whole three speed set up from a later e body fits, it might make financial sense to switch to the later year three speed set up instead.

There is a wiper repair guy I think that frequents the site. If someone can recall and post his name, he's probably the best guy to get definitive info from before starting.
