What color should this parts be painted? Orange or Gray?

99.9% sure all the items listed were painted on the engine as an assembly.

I used the paint from Rodger Gibson - dead on correct.  needs to be sprayed with a paint gun.
Its an enamel w/o hardener.

paint on my engine is nearly 3-4 years old and never cracked or pealed.
Be vey sure the engine is wiped down and all grease is gone.
The enamel also is supposed to be painted over a bare metal block.

The engines were pretty complete when they were painted.  A lot of accessories were already installed as well.  Water pump and housing, exhaust manifolds, torque convertor(if automatic), flywheel/clutch/bell housing(if manual), fuel pumps, spark plug wire looms.

Motor mounts were NOT installed prior to paint.  The block drain plugs were also NOT installed before paint.  Found these two pics online for you...

What is your personal preference?
I think that engine with gray exhaust manifolds and gray intake looks pretty cool...

It all depends on what look your after.  If you want the factory correct look, then you need to paint the engine as a complete assembly.  If you aren't concerned about looking factory, then you can do what ever you think looks good.  I personally like the factory look but it's up to you.

Paint on the exh manifolds will burn off.  It will not be orange for long.

Yes, the exhaust manifolds were installed on the engine before it was painted.  Most of the paint will burn off but some color will stay on the mounting flanges and fasteners.  Small blocks were the same way.  They even had the bypass hose installed before paint. No one could verify if small blocks in 73 had the fuel pump painted or not.  I chose to paint it.
