Is there a way to know without looking at the casting numbers on the rear end if one has a 741 or 742??

1971 challenger 383 N code with A36 package

The car is about 70 miles away and I wont see it again until Thursday.  Trying to get some new parts before I head up there.

71 Challenger should have a 489... There's a slim chance it came from the factory with a 741 but no chance it came with a 742..... However the car was built 45+ years ago so there's no telling what it may have at this point since all three pumpkins interchange....Along with the prehistoric 657.....

Just got a pic back from the shop. Much to my surprise....

I'm thinking that since the car was built in September of 1970 it got one of the last 742's before they swapped to the 489????   :woohoo:

Looking at a TSB for Plymouth, the transition happened '68-'69 years. Can't say the same applied for Dodge.
