Rear End Clearance After Lowering Cuda???
« on: January 22, 2017 - 01:42:21 AM »
I've dropped my Cuda 2" in the rear and had to remove the pinion snubber for extra clearance. I can tell the diff is still going to contact the floor where the pinion snubber was. What are you guys doing to get your Cuda low and not have the diff hit the floor? I was thinking I would have to take the rear seat out and cut the floor above the diff to get some clearance and then finish it off. Anyone else run into this issue?

How much clearance do you have with the car at rest? Did you check your pinion angle after the drop? You might be able to lower the pinion to gain some clearance.

It looks like about an 1 1/2" clearance, maybe 2". I didn't check the pinion angle with a gauge, just a quick eyeball. I think the pinion could be angled down a bit, but I'm not sure it'll be enough. I lowered it with blocks I have from another project, they're not staying I'm just seeing if that's the ride height I want and what clearance issues it brings with it. I had to undo the factory sway bar until I lengthen the end links as it was hitting the rear end when I put it back on the ground.

Yep, I just dealt with the same issue. Lowered mine 2" and was bouncing off the snubber. My old springs only had 4 leaves. I went to Espo 6 leaf springs. Maybe you can add a few leaves into your pack. Or you could do some custom work and raise the snubber stop area.

Cut or change out the rubber bumper to a shorter one to gain a little more clearance?

I actually took the whole snubber bracket off to get the most clearance. I'm thinking maybe a flat plate with an aftermarket short snubber will give me the most clearance and take away metal to metal contact, but I'm looking for more travel so I think the only way to get that is to manipulate the floor just a bit to give more clearance between the snubber and the floor. I also will try adjusting the pinion angle down a bit to see if that gives me enough clearance.

This ^. Snubbers were designed for drag cars with the highly arched SS springs. Drop them down low, and snubbers will be too tall. If you have the adjustable version, you will need to cut down the receiver and the  insert to the proper height.

My Challenger is lowered ion the rear (and front)... I cut some of the rubber snubber off... leaving about half.   but... the the rear leafs are also relatively flat and stiff (225#/5" uncompressed arch, Flex-a-Form fiberglass mono-leafs, red Koni adjustable shocks)...

You may want to stiffen your leafs (t least get some better/stiffer shocks... QA1 adjustable, Vikings, etc)..   Also, avoid loading the rear end down as well as very bumpy roads, etc.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!
