70 Cuda - Removing Power Steering Box
« on: February 08, 2017 - 12:43:42 PM »
I need to have the power steering box rebuilt and I am having difficulty getting it out. Car has a 440 and headers. I have her up on ramps and have removed the battery and power steering pump but not enough room to get it out that way. Tried through the bottom but no luck there either. I should be able to tilt the engine up a couple of inches by jacking it up under the oil pan (piece of wood used to disperse the pressure) but although I removed the bottom bolt on the driver's side and loosened the passenger side it is not moving. Any suggestions. Appreciate the help.

Loosen or remove the header.

:iagree:  Tilt the engine and loosen the headers and it should slide out the bottom.  On the 440 in my Charger I had to pretty much remove the headers.

And I'll throw a different angle that sometimes works.... Leave the header alone, take the torsion bar out....

Had to move the header out of the way and then bring it up through where I removed the battery and tray. Easier than coming through the bottom laying on my back. Should be easier to put it back in when it gets back from Firm Feel. Looking forward to the improvement.

Thanks for the advice.

Glad you got it out. Mine is on the way back from Firm Feel right now.....can't wait to put it back in. Was thinking about headers for mine, but with the stock manifolds my steering box pretty much fell out once it was in-bolted.
