Power brake booster
« on: December 03, 2016 - 02:36:48 PM »
Hi,
I need a new power brake booster.
Where can I get the best? It must be original style, no custom or racing type.
My 70' Challenger R/T 440-6 has power front disc and drum rear brakes (code A34)

Or is it repairable/restorable? And who can do this?   :1zhelp:

I have the same car as you do and I had my booster rebuilt by these guys. http://www.johnstuartpowerbrake.com/
They did a great job. Price was around $270cdn which works out to about $200us.

I have a 70 Challenger 440 six pack and have front disc conversion kit by MBM brakes. It looks like the factory Bendex style. They don't sell direct but you can get one of their boosters from Pirate Jack .net. I had to replace my master cyl and they were very prompt on shipping and on some tech questions I had.

I am thinking of converting my manual drum brakes to MBM power front and rear kit with brake booster, master cylinder etc. Are you satisfied with the quality? Does it brake as you expected? Would you recommend it?

I did not do the original conversion but I did replace the master cyl. Yes I am happy with the look and performance of the MBM set up. It was their complete set up installed, rotors, calipers, booster and master cyl.

Thanks. The whole kit is a lot cheaper than if I went with Wilwood and the guy at the store is telling me that this is a better performing kit for lower price.

older question but now I have taken some pictures. Which original style do I have? diameter is 10.5 -11", depth 4", looks crimped

MBM brakes are not an option for me, only real original style.

I would try to rebuild what you have if its the original.  If not, Rockauto has rebuilt ones by A1Cardone.  $64 + core.  NAPA and other auto parts stores should be able to get them.  Or get a rebuilt and keep your original.
