Nobody knows anything about any of those four Hemi Challengers?
Alright then ... on with the show.
Next up is a HemiCuda that was found and featured in the Calgary Sun newspaper back in December 2007. I present to you BS23R0B216394 which is 1 of only 704 1970 HemiCuda''s ever made and is 1 of only 45 made for the Canadian market. It is finished in FY1 Lemon-Twist with V6X black "Hockey Stick" stripes, a V1X black vinyl top and a H6X9 black vinyl interior.
Unfortunately the hyperlink to the story is now dead and I can't seem to find another path to the story. From my notes, it's discovery was completely accidental. The author was in the neighborhood looking for a person with a rare Porsche. He couldn't find the address, so he stopped and asked a lady who was putting out the trash for directions. The lady helped him with the address and then quipped "if you're looking for a rare car, I have a HemiCuda in my garage". The author thanked her and then went off to find the guy with the Porsche.
After telling his story of the encounter with the lady who claimed to have a HemiCuda in her garage, his friends encouraged him to go back the neighborhood and try and find her and the car. He went back, started knocking on doors and after a few misses he finally knocked on the right door. After some small talk, they went to the garage to see the car. Initially he walked right past it not realizing that what looked like a storage shelf piled high with boxes was actually the car!
As the story goes, her husband took delivery of the car on Christmas Eve 1969 when they lived in Lethbridge AB. After eight years of terrorizing the streets of Lethbridge and later Calgary, the Hemi developed a rod-knock and was parked in the garage to be repaired over the '78-'79 winter. One thing after another kept the car from getting repaired and one winter turned into dozens of winters. Decades later in 2007, this is how the HemiCuda was discovered - as the caption says it "was well disguised as a pile of boxes!"
After it was published in the newspaper the word was definitely out on this car. Be interesting to know what ever happened to it ... did the original owners finally get to restoring it? Or did a fistful of cash persuade them to part with and let some else fix it up? Anyone know?
