heads for 400
« on: June 24, 2005 - 02:54:44 PM »
I'm looking at a set of 346 heads to go on my 400.  88 cc open chamber, 3 angle valve job, ported, new seals and HP springs good to .520 lift.  2.08 int  1.74 ex.  My 400 bottom is stock.  I'm looking at pairing this with the Engle K-56 cam that Chryco recommended in another post.  Right now I have a Performer 383 intake and 650 Holley.  How do these heads match up?  Right now I just have stock heads with a 3 angle valve job.

I would look for a set of 516 closed chambers to bump the compression up

Thanks.  I'll keep an eye out for the 516s.  There doesn't seem to be many around though.  Also, after reading some of these other posts I think I'm under carbed with the 650, especially if I'm going with the K-56 cam.  Am I?  It looks like a 750 would be better.  Seeing as I don't see many 516s around, how would ported 516s compare to an out of the box set of Edelbrocks?

Eddys will out flow the 516 heads even ported well But Eddys bring problems as well , the valve are Not in the stock location so piston to valve problems can occur with mild cams , also you have angled plugs which can cause exhaust interference problems also the rocker do not center over the valve tips properly & you will Lose compression ratio as well

Thank you, Chryco.  Plenty of food for thought there.
