    Hi everybody,
    I want to upgrade my 440-6 engine, not sure if I should buy Comp Cams or Mopar purpleshaft. Any experience?
    Great sound with rough idle (not exaggerated though) and good mid-range is desired.
    Comp Cams offers complete kits including timing chain, lifters, springs... my choice would be 276/286 110 lobe
    The Mopar Performance comes only with the camshaft and lifters.. my choice would be 284/284 108 lobe
    Which one of the two options would you choose?

    Neither
     MP is 40 year old designs not bad but better are out there
     Comp is all about Chevrolet
     Lunati has very specific cams designed only for Mopars with not other information given it is hard to pick any specific cam for you
     but Lunati has the VooDoo series in both hyd flat tappet lifter & hyd roller , as well as some amazing solid flat tappet grinds .
     The 6 pack is hard to tune with short overlap cams you would be better with a 112* Cl cam

    Not sure what your intentions are with your 440 Six Pack build but I was asking the same question when building a 440 Six Pack engine for my wife's R/T Challenger.

    Mine was a fairly mild build with aluminum heads for a street driven car. 
    I didn't care if it had a radical sounding idle, I wanted a cam with good low and mid range power that would work good with a stock Six Pack setup.
    I was also considering some MP and Comp cams grinds but after doing some research and getting some suggestions here I went with a Lunati Voodoo 60302 hydraulic camshaft
    •Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 262/268
    •Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 220/226
    •Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .475/.494
    •LSA/ICL: 112/108
    •Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
    •RPM Range: 1400-5800
     
    The engine has been run on the test stand and I hope to get it installed and up and running/driving real soon.

     :iagree: Lunati Voodoo P/N 10230702K (full kit). 440-6 camshaft parameters to consider for drivability IMO: 110-112 LSA, 240 deg duration max @.050", .500" max lift with stock heads,springs and rockers, 3 bolt cam sprocket attachment. Here is a link:::

    I think i got about 15 inches of vac,  i let it idle at about 850rpm.  Its a 440 at 40 over

    And loving it ! Now that i have worked out that if the Carbs are playing up a bit and decide to surge when secondary's open.

    Step 1 - Dont try and fix it !

    Step 2 - Wait till tomorrow and it will fix itself  :bananasmi

    When I had the choke plate removed for racing on mine, the hesitation was much worse than with the choke plate on. Didn't matter when racing (when flat footing from an idle, you didn't notice it) but was a pain when street driving.

    Another vote for Lunati. MP is stone age technology and Comp stuff doesn't seem to have the quality lately from what my friends have experienced.

     I just got my new 440 six pack running with a 282 Lunati hydraulic roller cam.     sounds and runs great.    I wouldn't want anything more for a nice street engine cam myself.
