Rear Light Harness
« on: May 28, 2017 - 05:26:22 PM »
Has anyone installed the Year One Rear Light Harness part# RL75. Does the Rear Light Harness simply plug into the main harness? Or is there some snipping, crimping, soldering involved to tie it into the main harness? Thanks in advance for your comments.

PS: The '73 Challenger I recently purchased had a full trunk pan installed. There are several wires that were snipped  near the 3m connectors. No power to the rear passenger brake light. Although the night running light taillights light up. The hole near the trunk latch bracket in the floor for the license plate light wire has been welded closed. Hence no license plate light and the wire is just hanging from the lamp. I'm guessing whoever installed the full trunk floor did some snipping and when welding the trunk floor in place inadvertently  welded the license plate light hole closed.

No soldering, it's a direct plug in replacement. The rear lighting harness connects to the dash harness behind the drivers side kick panel and runs through the wire chase between the driver door and seat, up and over the drivers side rear fender into the trunk. There is a connector mid way for the dome light. If you need your license plate light, you will need to punch a new hole the correct size for the grommet to seal. There is a grommet for the fuel sender wire too. :2thumbs:

Thank you for the lucid explanation on installing the rear light harness. I forgot about the fuel sender wire. May explain why the fuel gauge is not working. Where is the hole located on the trunk floor for the wire? Evidently the carpet does not need lifting to route the harness?

I does make life easier if you remove the drivers side sill plate also and roll the carpet back towards the seat. There are some metal straps inside the chase that secure the rear light harness. You can see the grommet hole for the fuel sender wire in this link. Its just opposite the fuel fill cutout, just behind the left front body plug. Pretty much directly over the sender.

734406pk,  I asked about the carpet because I have Auto Trim's carpet kit ready to install. Also, being 6'4"  will be installing the driver's side seat relocation kit...need more leg room. So, will go ahead and order the rear taillight harness. In the meantime will pull the seats, console, and old original carpet, and wait for the wire harness. Thanks again for your help.
