72 'Cuda Battery Hold Down Fender Insert?
« on: April 20, 2017 - 12:13:59 AM »
Hi Guys

I have a '72 Cuda, and have purchased a replacement battery hold down.  The hold down has the j-hooks, as well as the fender bolt.  Can anyone tell me what the factory insert or clip looks like for the fender?  Is it a press in plastic insert, a threaded clip, or something different?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Josh

 :iagree:

If the car is already painted, you could just drill a hole and use a nut on the bottom side.  Or, you could use the earlier style battery hold down that only uses the J-hooks. I'm not sure when they changed to the updated style hold down.  Are you sure your 72 is supposed to have it?

Thanks guys.  The car was painted by the previous owner.  There's no weld nut in the fender, it's essentially a large square hole.  The car didn't come with a battery hold down, so I purchased one listed for the '72 to '74 E-body from Van's Auto (part number CHZBRK774).  It won't be too hard to make something work, but I was curious how it came from the factory.

Might use something like this..  Clean the backside of the inner fender real well,  little dab of panel bonding adhesive on each tab, put it in place & put a bolt in it... Mine was also missing on my 73 Cuda, I did a similar thing to the cage nuts Wild RT has suggested but as I didnt want to open the hole up any further, I just mad a square nut with a flange around the base so it wouldnt pull through, a little dab of silicon to hold it in place and done, if you have access to heat you could get a regular nut to suit, square it up to fit and solder a round washer on the back side of it to stop it pulling through etc.
