How bad is this K-Member?

Hi Guys,

Attached are some pictures of a K-member off my e-body and I wanted to get your opinion on how bad it is?  I see the scrapes but I'm wondering if the bolt through the K-member is from factory?  I also see a pretty crappy weld job and can't determine if this is how it was from factory or was this K-Member damaged and someone tried to weld it and drill a bolt through for rigidity?

I'm debating on getting the QA1 K-member or keeping this one.  I would rather not take the K-member out if I don't need to but I will if the current one is garbage.

There is a bracket that bolts to the front of the k frame and then to the radiator support, but the bolt hole is about 1/4" or so. That looks like someone try to drill a hole at one point. One side has big dent too. I think it needs to be cleaned up and dimensions checked. Lots of work but should salvageable if straight.

Looks like a lot of them. I've seen nicer, but I bet it's straight (still should check). The bolt is where the radiator support bracket is normally attached. They can be hard to remove, the bolt spins etc, so I'd bet that they had to cut or drill the original bolt out when they removed the bracket and just put that one in after. I don't see anything that looks like a weld repair, everything in the picture looks like factory welds to me. And yeah, the factory welds were pretty crappy on a lot of the K's. That's why I seam weld and reinforce all of my K-members when I have the opportunity. I'll be doing the one for my Challenger pretty soon, already done the one's for my Duster and Dart GT.

Funny thing, taking dents out of the K member you'll find easier than body work, the metal is heavy enough it doesn't stretch unless it takes a big hit... When you bump it with a hammer it moves pretty predictably... Mine for my Coronet looked like that, thirty minutes with a big hammer & a couple pry bars & it looks cherry...

But this one is pretty bad. What's a nice going for now a days? I mean, any B-body V8 one from '66 to '72 would work right?

Nope.. Steering box angle is different... People have used them & it'll work but it's not right....    71 & 72 B & 70-74 E..
