I was looking on the forum and didn't find many picture in regards to an aftermarket radio installation. I was looking into the retro radio but couldn't get myself to spend $550. I figured that the money could be better used towards my suspension. Plus my gauges are Dakota Digital and the aftermarket radio lights will match it perfect. I didn't want to cut or chop any of my original parts so I had a lot of thinking to do. I figured out a clean setup so I thought I would share it.
I started off trimming the the bottom half of the radio bezel. The bezel wouldn't allow the right lower Dash trim to sit flush. I cut down as much as I could without affecting the radio bezel trim tabs. I didn't want to cut my original lower dash bezel so this was the only way to go.
I then had to figure out a way to mount the radio to the dash frame. I bent the original radio mount to line up with the side of my radio but it wasn't sturdy enough. It was putting pressure on my original radio bezel. So I bought an 1/8 x 3/4 aluminum strip from Lowes and began bending away. The left side mount is a 90 degree angle that I tapped into a straight piece which mounts to the radio. The right side is a 90 degree angle with a slight bend in the middle of the piece. I had to do this because the the original mounting hole met up at the bend. I just used screws I had laying around. I'm going to get some black hex screws for the bottom of the dash frame. That way it blends in. I think the chrome stands out too much.
