71 Grill in 73 Cuda
« on: April 19, 2017 - 02:30:35 PM »
I saw where this question was sort of answered in the past but I have a little different take on it.  I have a 73 Cuda and would like to just swap in the 71 grill but keep the single lights as is and in the place of where the 2 innermost lights are on each side, put duel air intakes. I would want to leave everything else alone.  I am not trying to make a 71 clone, just want to swap out grill for 1 with existing holes for the intakes.   Anybody have a take on difficulty of this?  If it requires a bunch of extra work such as switching out bumpers, etc then I don't need that aggravation.   Thanks in advance for any advice.

It probably will need to have the bumper swapped out as they are different.   :grinyes:

I think you're going to have a lot more issues but the first is the 71 Cuda headlights are much smaller so there's no way you're keeping your 73 head lights as is. They won't fit....

Do you reckon I could just get the smaller bulb used with 71 to work in the 73 housing and just have some gappage around it?

your would need to get the actual 71 head lamp panel that welds into the fender that everything mounts too. then go from there.

once you have these parts you can mock up the grille. Also the header holes are opposite in the 71 vs 72-4 to mount the grille

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  Sounds like it is way more involved than I had previously considered.  I was really hoping someone would say "just take out the 4 screws holding in old grill and pop in the new grill with minor alterations".  Oh well, guess I'll just plow that budgeted money into the air ride suspension instead.
