440 Oil Pump Removal Question

When you remove the oil pump from a 440 will the distributor drive shaft and gear come out with/on the pump?

Excuse my ignorance but Ive never removed a 440 oil pump before.  So by just unbolting the pump and removing it, I don't have to be concerned with the distributer shaft coming out of the oil pump drive gear?  Or the drive gear being disturbed?

Any tips or advice on removing the pump or is it as simple as removing the mounting bolts and removing the pump?

Intermediate shaft will stay where it's at.

May need to lift the engine to clear the K-member/block.

Prime the new pump before installing. Fill the new filter at least half way and spin it on quickly.

If you want the intermediate shaft with gear out, you need to remove the distributor and take it out from the top side.

Thanks for the replies guys.  And no, I don't want the intermediate shaft out.....just knowing it drives the oil pump and having never removed a pump before I didn't know if it would come out when the pump was removed.

The intermediate shaft and gear are press-fit and pinned together making it impossible for the shaft to slide down and out the oil pump hole. If you want to prime the oil pump without having to disturb the distributor and intermediate shaft, pack the oil pump rotor and scroll with vasoline. The vasoline should create enough of a seal to create the vacuum to get the oil up the pick-up to the pump and then will just melt and dissolve once the engine starts.
