Need some pricing help
« on: June 10, 2017 - 10:15:40 AM »
The last thing I need right now is another project. But I found a 74 Cuda  supposedly complete but some parts are stuffed in the interior that has a 70  drivetrain and the kicker is it's numbers matching to the body.  Apparently they had 26 1970 340s pre-smog and used them in 74 models.  It's pretty interesting and I'm thinking about buying it the question is how much is something like that worth?  I'm still getting information and pictures from him and as of right now I have no idea what the options are or if it even has a clear title  but I'm interested enough to dig a little deeper on this.  Does anybody know about these 26 cars and what one in "needs complete restoration " should go for? I know it's hard without pics or any knowledge of actual condition and I'll add info as I receive it. Thanks. Mike

http://www.dailylister.com/

use the above and ebay to see what they are selling for.

In general, you will never get out of what you put into a car
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Hard to believe they put a 70 motor in a 74, I suspect a restamp on the block.

Ding Ding Ding....  " Apparently they had 26 1970 340s pre-smog and used them in 74 models".... BS..... Left over 70 castings would be gone in 71..... Get the data stamped on the drivers front of the block just below the head gasket .. :2cents:

Yeah, it's such an obscure sub group if it's even real.  I'd never heard of this fabled group of mopars. Didn't know if any one else ever had either.  Waiting for more info. I'll post it when he responds. Thanks

I worked with a guy who. Ordered a 74 with the 340. Says it was an early order. He is a mopar guy and doesn't seem like a big story teller.  :dunno:

Just not possible, unless the dealer did it after he took possession of car.
I know everyone likes to say, "anything is possible", just not the case.
You think a huge corporation would put in an engine that didn't meet the emissions standards of the model year?
Not to mention the motor hadn't been available for the 2 prior production years.
Why bother getting a 340, just go ahead and get a Hemi.......

Are you certain it's a 1970 340? Before you take the sellers word, I'd inspect it well, particularly the casting numbers. I'm am wondering if this is actually a 360 car which would still be an awesome car to have. I'd start with the VIN plate and see what engine code it "supposedly" left the factory with.

I don't buy that leftover engine story either but it could simply be that the seller is repeating bogus info. He was once told without any real verification.

It's about 2 hours away in Rhode Island. If anyone in the area wants to check it out for me. I'm expecting the story to be bogus. And Murphy's law tells me that even if it's true it's probably too far gone but it has peaked my interest. I wasn't going to commit the time to driving there before he sent me some pictures of the numbers. He is definitely selling the car based on this unique combo. I'd only pull the trigger if I was certain his story was true. And the fact that no one here has heard anything about such a combo isn't a good sign.  We will see what he sends me.

Haven't heard back from the guy yet with pictures of any documentation or numbers so I'm quickly loosing interest. If anyone is interested in checking it out to take it on as their own project, its located at Hall's Garage in Scituate RI. Like people here said, its very likely someone is pulling a scam or passing on false information unintentionally. If its truly an unknown gem, then its probably so rotted it would be a fortune to resurrect.  If I get any further info I'll post it here to help (or warn) other potential buyers.

Just FYI, I think Hall's garage also has another e-body (challenger) there that they are parting out if anyone here needs a source.

The owner of Halls is a huge Mopar guy.  More of a salvage yard than a garage. http://hallsgarage.com/home.html
