Author Topic: 1970 Challenger 440 Six Pack 4-speed clone (Read 3446 times)

I am planning to sell my 70 Challenger. I purchased it off this site so some may remember it. Is currently a 440 Six Pack 4-speed R/T clone but started out as a Slant Six 3-speed in F4 green. Literally no options (as you can see by the side mirror). Actually minus one because it's a radio delete car (see lack of antenna on fender). It is most certainly "driver" quality. The last "restoration" was almost 20 years ago and both the previous owner and I love driving. It's been to Carlisle twice, the Mopar Nationals twice and on the Hot Rod Power Tour. The engine and transmission are from a 69 Coronet R/T (so 440 HP and 18-spline). Both have been rebuilt. The trans and shifter only have about 4-5 tanks of gas worth of miles. Certainly less than 500 total miles. The carbs are repros with a fresh rebuild and new hard lines. The distributor is from FBO with the vacuum modified to work with the Six Pack. I installed an auxiliary fuel pump with a 3 second timer to prime the carbs and a valley pan with the heat crossover blocked to help with the fuel boiling problems it had when I got it. The suspension is original style equipment upgraded to the big block specs. It has an aftermarket disc brake kit on the front. Front wheels are original 15x7 and rears are repro 15x8. The body is all original and very clean. While working on the exhaust I did notice some pinholes in the "ribs" of the rear floor pans. I probably could have tack welded them all in a few minutes but the carpet was still in the car and I'm accident prone! There's a small patch in the trunk and there are some very small bubbles starting in the driver's door. The paint has some chips. It's also old and not the greatest to begin with. The yellow does a superb job of hiding the scratches and other imperfections though! It has Rally gauges with electronic tach and clock conversions. The shifter handle has been rechromed with new pistol grips. The console top is a stainless repro. There is an aftermarket radio and 4 speakers.

I've dumped a bunch of money into it since I bought it. It's currently my only running Mopar so I'd rather drive it all summer rather than take a giant loss. I really want to get some other projects finished though - including my A66 Challenger so something has to give. What do you all think?

Nice ride..
Not to knock your car but if you plan to sell it. Look at the photo's you posted you will notice the carpet needs cleaned. The gear shift boot needs some detailing or an new one.
There's no pic of dash pad........what shape is it in.
The seats need saddle soap.
The steering column needs detailed. The hood latch and spring could use a paint.
These small things stand out when selling a car.

The pictures of the interior are 3 years old. I took them while documenting some changes - not as a way to sell the car. But yeah, it probably needs cleaned again. I have about 300 detailed pictures of the car now but I will clean it and take new ones before posting an ad. I put 10 low resolution ones here because that's how many fit in a post.

Nobody? I bet if I put an ad up with an asking price of $50k people would sprain their fingers in their haste to rip it to shreds. Oh well, I got my answers elsewhere.

Prices are all over the board for cloned cars. Your looks pretty good and has the items most are looking for in a clone, 4 sp, 440 six pac, good color. so my two cents on what it is worth, $40,000. If you sold it to me for $35,000 I would think that I got a great deal, at $45,000, I would still be okay.

For the last seven days, I was watching eagerly on eBay a 71 Challenger clone 440, a/t, sure-grip, black on black, very nice daily driver with a lot of amenities sell at no reserve for $24,600. It originally was a 318 car. As said, the $$ are all over the board with clones. Here's a pic

Take that car, get rid of the dumb grill (don't hate me!

), do an 18 spline 4-speed swap, and add a Six Pack and the total value is about what I'd expect. I have already been offered that amount and, for that, I'll just keep driving it. The goal is to finish another car so, in my head, I'm "trading" my car to get another one completed. If I can only get 80% of the way there it's a bad trade. Whether that's logical or not doesn't really matter because that's my only motivation...

But yeah, I'm getting estimates everywhere from the low 20s to mid 40s so it isn't getting any easier to make a decision.
