1970 Barracuda Convertible top HEADER removal
« on: August 04, 2017 - 08:34:22 PM »
I have heard a couple things about removing the 4-5" wide stainless header panels across the top of the windshield for a convertible. I would like to remove the header panels and take some dents out. But, 1. I've heard there is a ton of sticky tar/silicone that will make it difficult to just simply remove. 2. I was told there are some tiny screws underneath that retain the header panels and I would have to remove the windshield before I can take the header panels off.
My old '69 Camaro CV I simply unscrewed the panels and could easily replace them.
I have done a lot of s/s dent/polishing before and that is relatively simple and easy, but I don't want to have to remove the windshield to get to the panels if I can avoid it.
Anyone that has done this, please tell me what needs to be done to remove the header panels. Thank you!

I have the same issue trying to remove it.

I have heated it with a hair dryer and in 90" heat outside. No luck

I was wondering if freezing it with dry ice would make it pop off.

That tar **** is a pain.

I got mine off on the challenger with no problems. Got lucky I guess. Just will have to remember how to put it back together when the time comes.

Mine was stuck like a MF! First I was sure there was hidden screws somewhere and was afarid to pry it, then I used a heatgun, that helped, but I had to heat it a lot, it was that black sticky stuff, I don't think a hairdryer is hot enough. I took the windshield out first.
