Rear Drum Brake Shoes
« on: August 25, 2017 - 09:05:02 AM »
Hi Everybody

I need some new pairs of Brake shoes for the rear and ask myself if it gives some high performances drum brake shoes for the rear ?
Maybe it`s a strange question but I think there could give high performance parts too .

I have take a look about Hawk performance brakes but find no drum brake shoes only Parts for brake dirc
What about the Wagner ThermoQiet PAB333R ? They are good or junk ?

Maybe someone here know something about this and can give recommendations

I remember reading someplace that some company is or does make performance shoes for classic muscle cars but unfortunately I cannot remember who that is. That said, the Wagner shoes are nice, I just installed some in my wife's Caliber and was very impressed with their quality. Unless you are planning on making 200 MPH runs, I think any good quality shoes will perform well so long as you have good drums and the rest of the hardware and system are in good condition and adjusted properly.

If you are really concerned about it, you could always convert to a bolt on disc system but IMO the drums will serve you well.

I was looking at this company a while back. As I recall, they offer high performance shoes for racing applications.

The rears are #446 - HP street for 11" rears. They probably have front too. A bit pricey but I'd love to know how they work

You might want to give these guys a call. This is the kit I will be using in the near future for my restoration.

Thx for your recommendation . Seems me very interesting and what I searching for .....
Did you or other guys have experience with this Performances Drum Brakes ?

I don`t want to but in a expensive drum brake before my rear axle are not ok .
The Simmering ( I hope this Part was called in english also so as in german ) ...or i call it better sealing ring
in the rear axle , always only on driver side are damaged when I want to drive with the Barracuda when he stays for months .
Interesting but also annoying is that always only be damaged the driver side .
I have change this sealing ring now two times and must change it now again and I don`t know way it`s always damaged .
When these sealing ring get broken, the brake shoes of the drum brake are also killed because the rear axle oil get on the brake shoes .
Maybe I need a better quality of this Parts as the one from National Wheel End Components with Part number 8695S have ...
What Sealing Ring / Simmering did you guys in your rear Axle ?

When the Axle will be always sealed and fits , I will buy a Performance Drum Brake .

I think you need to pull the axles out and change the seals inside the (tube) housing. You will have problems until you do. It's a little scary but after you do it, you see it's not that hard.

When you slide the axles out, check the shaft where it touches the seal. Sometimes they get worn and grooved. Check out the link below for another member who describes the job in better detail.
