AMD Body Panel Purchase...Summit Racing or...?
« on: September 02, 2017 - 02:30:17 PM »
I'm getting ready to purchase a large amount of AMD replacement panels for my poor neglected '70 ' Cuda.
Shopping around and Summit seems to have the best prices...any other suppliers with comparable prices I might be overlooking?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

In the middle of this on my 70 Challenger so I can give you the benefit of what I've found. I like to buy my metal off eBay. I also buy things individually rather than batches. I've found that the prices on eBay are the same and it gives you the ability to search many different companies at once while factoring in brand quality and shipping costs. It's really saved me a bit of time and a boatload of money. Been keeping track of all my expenses and I probably have saved many hundreds of dollars already doing it this way.

It has been my experience that Tamraz generally has great prices and lately, CarID has even better prices. Both give free shipping which is huge. The advantage with CarID is that they ship for free no matter how big or how heavy while Tamraz charges surcharges on extra large items.

One business I will never do business with is Columbia Parts. I communicated with them through eBay messaging and the response was so utterly disrespectful and venomous that I swore I'd never give them a penny of my money. It was so bad that had I been in person, I would have been tempted to reach over the counter and sock him in the face. I've already spent thousands and they robbed themselves out of that profit. If you read their eBay ads, what they write in their description is really demeaning to the customer which should also be an indicator of how they will treat you later.

Last final advice...don't be afraid to save a few dollars on metal that is not AMD. I've bought many interior pieces and found them to be the same thickness as originals. It all comes from Taiwan anyway. It has all fit fairly well and you will have to fit everything anyway. The exception I am making is that any exterior painted panel like quarters and fenders, I plan to spend the extra bucks on AMD just to ensure fit is as good as possible. I'm not as concerned about it with a floor pan that is gonna be cut, ground and forced into position and then later covered by carpet.

Oh and one other thing...by getting it in pieces off eBay, I'm not tripping over pieces I'm not ready for. I buy as I get ready to need them. I search the pieces I want and save them in my watch list. Quite often, the seller drops the price by 5-20% on the item you have been watching and when they do, I don't hesitate to pull the trigger if I'm sure I will be needing it down the road.

Tamraz on eBay has good pricing too. Watch the "oversized part" shipping on Summit/Jegs

If you message Tamraz thru eBay, they will give you better pricing outside of eBay if you ask....

Tamraz is great...I've bought many sheet metal items through them. They made a mistake once and when I called them, they were really good about doing what it took to resolve the matter. I was very happy with them. The only thing I don't like about Tamraz (which is the same as most suppliers) is the extra surcharges on large items. Being in Ca., I get killed on that. For that reason, I have been going to CarID. Not sure how they do it but free shipping is free on everything. I'm loyal to a point but if the same item is gonna cost me an extra $75 in delivery surcharges, I am forced to look elsewhere. When it's the same price, I always go to Tamraz because of great customer support.

As an example, I am saving my pennies right now for two new front AMD fenders. Through CarID, I'm gonna be able to have the pair at my door for about $150 cheaper than anyone else. That's $150 I can use for sealers and other supplies. Tamraz might work with me if I called but I don't feel too bad since I've given them quite a bit of business and will continue doing so.

The nice thing about eBay again is the ability to easily compare. I just bought a rear crossmember (the portion that the rear bumper bolts to). Tamraz and CarID had great pricing but I found another guy selling one for $130 shipped versus $200. It was an off brand but who cares since it will never see daylight. I checked it Against the original and it's perfect in every detail. Again, $70 saved for other metal or supplies. I never would have found that seller with that exact part had I not been looking through eBay. I suppose you could find it on eBay and then call the guy direct to see if he will sell it for less outside of eBay.

It was in 2013, but I think it was 10 percent discount outside of eBay.
