Original booster?
« on: September 20, 2017 - 02:47:35 PM »
I'm sending off my carb to get rebuilt at Harms and he does a lot of yellow chromate and other plating so I'm looking around to see if I can send off a few items and save myself a trip later on. So I'm looking at the booster that came with the car. I had bought a cordone reman a while back as a cheap filler because I wasn't sure if this old one was original and worth spending the money to restore. Now I'm looking at it again more closely and still not sure  :dunno:

The car: 71 cuda 340 originally with power drum brakes on all 4, built Jan 71.

The booster (all this came off the aluminum tag, I decoded all but the last line using the Galen Tag Svc. Parts and Casting Numbers Book, vol II pg 50 ) :
PN: 3461134
Vendor No.: 73608
Date: 188 0 B = 188th day '70 Shift B
Midland Ross PN: C-4601-A

Jim's auto lists a NOS 3461287 he's selling as being for e bodies with power drums.
Another web site selling misc parts references the C-4601 as an e body booster no mention of year or disc/drum.
My MMC reference book states that the proper booster for my car would be a C4600MC if it had DISC brakes originally.

Questions:
Is this original to the car? I don't have the big 71 chry parts book to reference the PN's
If original, is it able to be used since I put front discs on the car with a new distribution valve?

Curious to see if anyone can find a reference to this booster, as I sure can't.
Thanks
Mike

Yipes on the rust. I would paint the Cardone reman. black and it will look like my 1974 cuda did new. No chromate. The only thing to have chromate in 74 was the electronic ign. heat sink on the firewall. It looked weird back then, since it was a new yellow finish.  Unless you are building for Concourse judging? Didn't those old H.P. E's use a dual diaphragm for low vacuum, with all the lever apparatus under the hood?

:cheers:thanks aracer. I actually did paint the cardone booster black like you suggested. I can't find any references for boosters on 71 340's with all drums. Everyone goes with the discs so that's often what I find in books and on the web.

So any ideas on what this booster goes to? Still hoping it's original to the car.
Thanks

So I finally got a hold of a chrysler parts catalog for 70/ 71 and the first thing I did was look at the booster section... and they don't list this booster at all!  :clueless: So I guess it must have been manufactured for a ford or GM application. So at any rate it saved me from dumping a bunch of money into re-plating and restoring it. And for anyone interested, a 71 with power drum brakes on all 4 (non semi) got the 3461287 for 10" drums and the 3579272 for 11" drums. May be useful to someone down the road as I sure couldn't find info on non disc applications.
