What is best way to test my gauges...........
« on: July 06, 2005 - 04:37:04 PM »
Cryco or anyone........How may I safely test my gauges to see if they are operating??   I know I need to throw some kind of low voltage to them but what is the easiest way........pardon me but please be specific........i would rather test myself instead of just sending off to instrument repair place and simply taking their word for it.     How can I do this safely by reducing voltage to say 5 volts or less to test......help please

I can't see how it would be easy to test them outside the car. You would need a couple of power supplies, or at least one, and a 12 volt battery. If you have a tach., I know of NO way to test it outside the car.

do you have a small transformer or something putting out 5-v approx , or 3 - 1.5 v batterys or a 9 v battery & just touch it to the guage for a second the guage should swing across  , hook + to the low side & - to the high side, , the tach has to be hooked to a running engine , you need a ground to the case , signal wire hooked up form the coil & + wire hooked up as well
