Challenger hood blackout
« on: April 02, 2013 - 07:26:41 PM »
Had stripes and hood blackout put on at a sign shop the other day.The sides went well but they had probablems with the hood. There are quite a few small bubbles and a small ridge where the vinyl is against its self. That spot is in the front by the dodge letters probably a couple inches long.My question is will the bubbles go away with sun and time? Will the probablem fix its self or do I need to think of doing it over? I thought maybe someone else my have had this probablem in the past. Thanks

The bubbles will go away in a couple of days! The ridge you might have to rub it out while wetting it againing or even used a heat gun to mold it out. I ended up redoing my hood a 2nd time because of a ridge in the same spot your car has the ridge. It's a pain in the ass to remove it!

Thanks, I wish the weather was a little warmer here. Maybe some time in the hot sun would help.Four days and nothing has changed.Lots of small bubbles all over.Looks great from ten feet away, like crap up close. If it still looks this way in two weeks,I think I`ll give up and try again.

How did you apply it?
If you put it on dry then that's wrong.
The little bubbles are air pockets.
You can retrieve it by putting a little nick at the edge of each bubble and gently squeezing the air out through the nick from the opposite side.
You won't notice it if done carefully.

I think they did it dry.The guys who did the body and paint on this recomended I go to this sign place. They said this shop puts graphics on dry and that they do so many they know what they`re doing. They do alot of race car and semi truck graphics. There`s around 70 small bubbles scattered across the blackout. When I had the hood done on my daughters 71 Charger,it came out perfect. That shop is no longer open.

My wife just had her hood blacked out and it came out awesome.  No bubbles or anything,  hers went on wet, see below.  It is a little tough to see since it was cloudy that day.  I hope you can get yours fixed up correctly.
