engine vin number identification

hello group, trying to figure out if my 383 is original to my car... where on the motor would I find numbers and what numbers am I looking for? is there more than one place on the block to look? any and all help greatly appreciated!

Assuming it's a 70.... Right side of the block just above the oil pan, just rear of the engine mount...

That didn't change 70-74 right?  Should all be in the same place. 

The number will match the last 6 digits of your vin. 

You will also find the body stamps that will match that engine stamp and vin tag.

Hey Wild, where are the tranny numbers?

Auto is on a cast pad R side of the bell housing, 4 spd is on a machined pad R side of the trans case..

Engine vin stayed the same though at least the late 70's but 69 while in the same location was the full vin & 68 was on the flange where the bellhousing bolts to engine near to oil pressure sending unit...

Oh, and while the last 6 match the VIN the first to also match but are transposed...
