Grill fit on 70 Cuda
« on: January 14, 2018 - 12:06:39 AM »
Just got my grille painted my own special argent  flavor, polished the trim good enough and installed it back in the car.I installed it with all new spacers and hardware and it lines up decently compared to before I removed it but it seems like it's sucked up in the middle to tight to the upper valance. Is there supposed to be a spacer in the middle at the top, because it's just against the metal mounting surface with no plastic biscuit like the rest.I'll try to post a picture and give me your opinion please.Thanks.Its at the very peak in the middle. And those aren't dents on the black lol.The hood is slightly open and the reflections on the black look like dents on the hood and fender tops.

you are right, that doesn't look right.  :clueless:

It has been a few years since I did mine, I think there is a screw in the middle.

I'm glad you can see it.It looks like if I loosen the grille up and put a spacer between the top and grille it may look correct. As it is now ,there is no hardware of any kind fastening the top middle. It looks like a bolt goes there, but I haven't done that yet until I figure out what's up.Factory service manual shows the exploded view, but doesn't show spacer or not.

I have seen few originals, and none of them fit all that great  One reason is warpage and shrinkage over the years.  But that pic doesn't look like anything I have seen

Sorry its been awhile to respond. So the grille isn't warped.but there are little plastic biscuits that go into all the rest of the mounting holes in the grille. On the bottom and along the top where the access holes are located.I bought them from Classic a few years back and just got around to installing them. But it doesn't look like a "biscuit"goes on the top mounting hole according to the manual.Just cant figure out why its sucked up so tight without being bolted in that spot.Im thinking something inserted between the grille and the metal tab on top may bring the middle down. Not sure if factory there is such a thing and maybe I'm missing it?
