Torqueflight to manual conversion?
« on: February 20, 2018 - 01:11:10 PM »
Anyone on here converted from a torqueflight to a 4speed manual?... on a 70'-74' cuda/challenger?
is it a nightmare or fairly easy? what are the big "humps" to get over in this conversion? (1972 Cuda 340)
Thanks everyone

Yes I have done it several times. It isn't all that difficult but you need to think it through, meaning that you need to decide if you want to do it like a factory system or one of the other systems out there.

The "hump" is the part that goes over the transmission and provides a hole for the shiftier to come through.

You are going to need the followingl

transmission
clutch
pressure place
throw out bearing
throw out bearing fork
bell housing
clutch pedal set
clutch rods
Z bar
Z bar bracket
transmission tunnel hump
shifter
shifter rods
shifter handle

Check out Brewers or Passion, they have everything you will need
Current Mopar
70 Challenger RT 440-6 EFI, 73 Cuda 416-6 EFI
05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

Damn good advice with the addition of you'll also have to cut the floor when installing said hump. A bit finicky but, as mentioned, quite do-able.

Another suggestion; if do this come back and start a thread, the members can then give you very specific timely advice that should help you through this with a lot less drama. One point reference the hump is not to cut a hole until you mount the transmission (without the shifter attached), you then can see exactly where the shifter will need to come through the floor, this gives you a data point for cutting the floor. The hump is for clearance for the shifter and it’s rods so you don’t need to cut a big hole first. Once you have the shifter location you will see how the hump fits the existing trans tunnel and then you can cut. You will not have to cut the entire size of the hump, only some of it to allow the shifter and rods clearance. Basically it’s cut s little, test fit, repeat as needed.
