36* mark on 440 balancer
« on: May 25, 2018 - 07:48:54 AM »
I've read numerous posts on the forum that states measuring 2 3/8" inches cw from the TDC mark on a 440 balancer equates to 36*.

I just got the MOPAR timing tape and thought I'd confirm that.  If I measure 2 3/8" inches from the TDC mark on the tape it equates to 39*.

Anyone know for sure which one is truely correct?

Measure the circumference & divide by ten.... The result will equal 36 degrees....

With the balancer diameter as 7-1/4 '' the circumference is 22-25/32 '', divide by 10 due to 360*/36* = 10 , you get 2-9/32'' almost 2-5/16''

The 2-3/8" was 38° per the old DC book as I recall. It translates to 1/16" per degree. Using that logic, 36° would be 2-1/4"

 36° = 2.2776546738526" actual.

I'd verify the TDC mark is accurate first. When I have that I also mark the inner ring to the outer of the stock balancer to have a visual reference of any slip.
