Hey all,
My reverse lights are not working. I always try to research previous posts before asking questions pertaining to my topic. I did this time as well and found some ideas that I am going to try, but in the mean time give me some input. I have power to a corner pin on the firewall bulkhead, only when the switch is on. The NSS is operating correctly as far as starting only in park and neatral. I tested the harness for continuity, it passed. I also have power to the outside pin socket on the NSS plug. I do not get power from the NSS to the back-up lights, brand new switch. Fresh professionally rebuilt tranny. I am going to try to jump the power at the NSS plug and see if that works.
Help me understand how the NSS switch works. Does it always have power running to it when the switch is on? Does the lever in the tranny move and continue a circuit to let power through to the reverse lights? or does it complete a ground? Hope this makes sense. ???

Key on there is always power to the NSS switch , when the trans is shifted into reverse it will close the switch & send power back to the firewall through the second black wire which goes through the main harness out to the plug int he drivers kick panel area & back to the rear lights

 Traced the problem to the NSS switch. Problem solved, wrong NSS switch. I pulled one from another tranny I had. It was about 1/4" shorter on the threads, fit and works perfectly. I guess you cant always trust your local NAPA man.

Its an old thread but I revived because its the same scenario I am running into....

I just had this same problem yesterday.....old switch was leaking, bought a new one, looks aboutt the same.....

Swapped the switch in and car will start but lights wont work.....swapped the old switch back in and added a rubber washer and all works fine....

What would be the reason that a brand new switch doesnt work the saeme?   In my case they looks almost the same --- the plastic plunger in the middle was ever so slightly longer......and my old one uses a metal reinforced rubber waher that is thicker than the new parts rubber seal.....or maybe just a bad switch internally?

I am perplexed....this thread helped me though --- encouraged me to swap the old one back in to test.....so thanks!
