Yes optional...  Personally I prefer a 4 spd not have a console, just the pistol grip sticking up all by itself makes a statement....   Plus the consoles tend to rattle.....

You should know that the consoles are different between an AT and a manual as well and the manual versions can be expensive.
Current Mopar

05 Hemi Durango, 01 Ram 4x4, 14 Ram 2500 4X4, 10 PCP Challenger 6 spd RT, 01 Viper GTS ACR, 52 B3B w/330 Desoto Hemi, 70 Hemi RR (under const)
Past Mopars
9 x Challengers. AAR Cuda, 4 RR, 2 GTX, 4 Chargers, etc... (too many to list)

Personally I like the console in a Challenger, IMO it looks more finished. In a Cuda however I prefer no console; more "business" like, meaning the Cuda is more of a street fighter whereas the Challenger is/was more of a gentleman's muscle car. I have one of each although my 70 Challenger is a AT car.

The 4 speed versions do tend to rattle though.
