73 Challenger Advice Please
« on: July 14, 2005 - 04:51:54 PM »
Ok....here we go.  Just brought home a car that I am not sure is worth the effort. I have been told by a couple of people that it can be repaired and made into a great car.  But I want more advice from you folks. This is my sons first car and we want to work on it together. The car is currently a 318 auto with factory buckets and console...
Check the pictures....

   What you think?????

Thanks
Rick and Rickey Jr.

That looks like a cool car!!  73 Challengers ROCK!!  I am guessing that it was a vinyl top car with all the rust up top??  From what I see it doesn't look too bad.  What does the floors and trunk look like??  Does it run??  Drive??  What condition is the interior in??  Part are becoming more and more available in the after market area . . . I guess answer some of the questions and we'll let you know what we think!!

Welcome to cc.com!!  I think you'll find alot of great people here!!  Enjoy!!  :dogpile:

Welcome to the board!  I'll leave the answers for the experts, but man...you're a brave man!!  How are your welding abilities?

BTW, I resized your pics for ya.

The roof skin isn`t that hard to replace and there are plenty good used ones around. If you have more pics and details on how rusty the rest of the car is we could judge it better. It also depends on your abilities and what you have to spend for parts and paying for any work you can`t do.Most of us have learned bodywork and mechanics by getting some tools and advice and just doing it.Stick arounf here and we can help with pretty much anything you need to know as there a re guys knowlegable in all areas od restos.

Thanks folks!
The work does not worry me nor does the welding.  I have a buddy that has his own shop but it is located in South Texas..Its called Paint Shop 101...and that is also his website.. www.paintshop101.com.
With that said...he has taught me alot before he moved so it does not worry me to tear into it..  Just want to make sure that I can get the parts that I need and if it would be worth the effort.  Yes it is a cool car and would and could be a cool car again...
I will post more pictures later...

As far as the floor pan...its rotted out..but the trunk has NO holes in it..  I have already located the floor pans(full length) so that will not be an issue...
 Keep the suggesting coming...

Sounds like you have all the skills necessary!  What engine does she have in there?  Does it have a fender tag we can look at?

Any e-body that can be brought back to life, should be brought back to life!

Currently it has a 318 with an automatic..  future plans calls for a 340 with a 727. I have located one that has never been rebuilt...

Will also get the tag to look at...

:iagree:,   I've seen ones worse than that brought back. Sounds as though you have most of the resources you need to get the project under way. Good luck with it...
