Clutch Adjustment Procedure
« on: October 23, 2018 - 08:56:13 PM »
I did a search and did not seem to find the proper clutch linkage adjustment procedure for an E-body. I am getting a '72 Challenger running for a friend with a 340 in it and I installed new clutch linkage. I am unsure of the proper adjustment of it and I think it is way off at the moment. Right now when I push the clutch in, it goes down fine. When I release it only comes about 2/3rds of the way up and stops. I then have to put my toe under it and pull the pedal up to get it to pop up to the rubber stop. I have the spring that came in the kit from the clutch fork hole to the hole in the bell housing. If I need to I could take a picture and pst it tomorrow evening of what it looks like right now.

Thanks!!   :banghead:

Do you have the over centre spring into the clutch pedal arm? It's the big spring that mounts up in the clutch/brake pedal assembly and it serves to pull the pedal back up. The pedal should have 3/4-1" free play at the top to when it begins to disengage the clutch and that's set by adjusting the nut on the clutch rod. If there's too much, then the pedal can be slow or fail to come back up all the way. Just a couple of things to check. Good luck.

Yes, I do have that big spring in place up under the dash. I will play with the adjustment of the nut to see if I can get it to work correctly.

Thanks!
