History:
When I first started looking for a challenger, I was looking for a 4 speed 1970 model to make a T/A clone. At the time they were big money rust buckets.  I looked for a rust free 4 speed car and found this one.  The car stated life as a lemon twist 72 340 4 speed rally car. Unfortunately it is a non matching number no fender tag car (which was perfect for what I wanted to do).  I found the car hidden in a shop in Michigan.  It was only driven 67,xxx miles.  Based on the condition and evidence of original paint I would say the color and miles to be correct for the car.  According to the previous owner, in 1985, it stopped running and was pushed to the back of the shop where she sat inside until I purchased it in 2013.  It still had a brand new set of Good Year Eagle ST's with the stickers on it when I dragged it out of its spot.  It was painted a root beer brown at some point before she was put into her slumber.  On my first inspection of the car, the only rust was that was evident was in the trunk behind the drivers side rear wheel house )about 3x6 and the drivers side floor pan was poorly patched but was not really visible.  The frame and all the body panels were SOLID.  The car was undercoated early in her life which is what probably saved her.  I dragged her home and began taking it apart.  My intention was to build a solid track day/autocross/ daily driver car.

Engine:
I immediately pulled the motor out of the car.  It is a 340 out of a 1972 model.  I took it to Coldwell in Columbus to be rebuilt.  The engine was actually in excellent shape.  It was bored .30 over.  I had them assemble it with a Lunati cam (have to check on the specs) and rebuilt the heads.  The 740 Holley was specially made per the specs of the motor by a specialty shop in South Carolina (the name is eluding me).  The engine was never ran but properly stored and turned over by hand.  DJ from Raare Finds primed the motor when it was put into the car and noted it had excellent oil pressure.  It has new plugs, coil, and wires.  Keeping with the T/A theme, I located a air cleaner off of a B Body that resembles the T/A 6 pack air cleaner.  It has a one wire alternator set up from powermaster.  New aluminum 3 core radiator as well.

Wiring:
I purchased all new wiring harnesses (engine/rear light/rally dash harness...) from Evans wiring or Year One.  It is set up with a one wire alternator and a volt meter doing away with the amp meter in the dash.  The headlights (led) are on their own circuit as well.  All the lights work as they should.  The battery is ran to the trunk with the electric block being moved to under the passenger side dash where the heater box was.  The heater box was removed (included in sale).  In the place of the heater controls on the dash are a set of stewart warner gauges (temp, oil pressure and volt).  I have a aftermarket bluetooth radio should you choose to put it in.  The electric fan and electric fuel pump are set up to work off of a switch on the dash.  Also has new battery from NAPA.

Body:
The body was in excellent shape when I bought it.  I decided to sell the rally hood and fenders off the car.  The engine bay and door jams were painted with PPG lemon twist.  I located an ORIGINAL T/A hood.  It was purchased from a long time T/A owner that took the hood off only because he found a new old stock hood in the early 90's.  I located a rust free set of 70 fenders.  DJ from Raar Finds put the 1970 rear tail light panel and side marker lights in the car.  I sanded the car down looking for any hidden demons that might be lurking.  Nothing was found.  I got sick of looking at it being three different colors so I painted it flat black with a SEM product.  The grill was restored and is near perfect as is the rear tail lights ( including a NEW center DODGE lense with new chrome trim (all new gaskets as well).

Suspension:
I set this car up to handle the curves and copied the "emax" challenger Hotchkis built.  I pulled the front suspension form the car.  I cleaned and painted everything.  The car is extremely well balanced with Hotchkis rear lowering springs, Fox racing shocks all the way around. CCP tubular upper control arms, reinforced lower control arms.  All new bushings and wheel bearings.  It has a set of 1.03 set of torsion bars.  It comes with a set of Hotchkis weld in subframe connectors and adjustable rear sway bar that need to be installed.  The factory rear sway bar also goes with it.  The steering box was rebuilt by steer and gear with a level 3 kit.  All of the tie rod ends and ball joints are new using only the best parts.

Wheels and tires
brand new US Mags Rambler 18 inch...wrapped in Nitto 555....275-40-18 in the rear and 225/40/18 in the front

Brakes
The front set is off of a Dodge Viper with new calipers, rotors....
The rears are Wilwood also all new

Interior
I stripped the car down to nothing inside.  I installed dynomat throughout the car.  Installed new carpet and headliner.  Im not a fan of the old school fake wood look so I took it all off and painted it black for a more updated look.  The rally dash panel, center console, door panels and so on....The 3 speaker dash is perfect. I installed a 3 point seat belts from 3XV racing.  I also installed a set of Corbeau RRS seats and their mounting brackets which fit perfectly!  I also installed a custom steering wheel.  The rally clock was sent off, refurbished, and works great.

Summary
That should answer most questions.  It’s a solid PROJECT that’s really close to getting on the road....yes you will find a cheaper one but not one this solid with so many top notch parts...Im sure Im forgetting some things or details.  I have every part needed for the car.  That being said, it needs finished (exhaust, fuel lines, brake lines, minor assembly, sorted  and so on).  I spared no expense when I built it.  Clear Ohio title in my name stating the miles correctt. I have a ton of pictures documenting the restoration process as well.  I decided to to turn my attention to my other cars and racing.
