Additional holes in rear bumper
« on: March 21, 2019 - 11:11:51 AM »
I've seen a 70' Challenger with 2 extra holes in the rear bumper. The holes are exactly at the same position right and left from the licence plate. The holes are looking punched original, otherwise the bumper must be rechromed in the past nut it doesn't seems so.

I've never seen those holes on 70' Challenger bumpers, maybe part of the trailer towing package?
Does anybody have pics of an installed trailer towing package?

Crazy as it might sound, these cars sometimes had trailer hitches on them and I wonder if those holes were there in case of such a situation.

On page 36 in the 1973 Challenger Operators Manual it states.......

TRAILER TOWING:
The Maximum Vehicle Capacity must be decreased an amount equal to the trailer tongue load on the trailer hitch.

Page 58 is dedicated to TRAILER TOWING. States maximum trailer towing is 1500 lbs.
Trailer brakes are recommended for all trailers with a GROSS TRAILER WEIGHT over 1000 pounds. Etc, etc, etc

I wonder if their is a fender tag code for a factory tow hitch?

Well, what do you know? Turns out A35 is fender tag code for 1969-71 e-body HD Trailer Tow Package. Wonder if required a certain axle ratio?
