Left turn signal front not working
« on: March 21, 2019 - 08:20:57 PM »
I have a turn signal issue on left front with headlight switch off and key in on position but car not started when testing.
Right turn working as normal. When I select left turn with headlight switch off the rear taillight blinks but front does not & left indicator bulb in dash does not flash. If I turn on headlight switch to either on position the back left taillight stops blinking and I cannot hear the relay clicking any longer. Right indicator works fine with headlight switch on with either position.

I pulled dash apart and replaced left indicator bulb in dash, but old light seems fine.
checked front turn signal bulb housing on left side and cleaned out some rust but very little. Made no difference. Tested bulb and it is fine. Any suggestions on this one.

The first and most common thing to check for is a good ground for the circuit. Take a jumper wire off either the negative post of the battery or a good, clean connection on the engine and ground the body of the signal light bulb and see if that makes the connection. Obviously, use a test light to make sure there's power to the terminals inside the socket as well. Good luck

Already tested straight from negative on battery to bulb with turn signal on while having plastic housing off and no luck and no change. The bulb works when you place headlight switch in parking lights mode(middle setting), but blinking side of bulb does not. This is some kind of power issue I believe. I disconnected the the male/female connector on the light bulb housing & used a volt meter on wires when disconnect and left blinker on. I found the male side showed zero volts and female shows up and down with highest being 2 volts.

Where do I look for the issue when it affects the bulb in dash.

I tested removing the rear left taillight bulb to see if the front left turn would blink with extra voltage not being used in rear bulb but the relay did not even click in test. Place rear bulb back in and same results as originally mentioned.

While I had dash apart I cleaned the ground connection from the dash cluster holding the headlight switch, windshield wiper, dimmer switch, to dash frame(metal on metal with no paint). The one the bottom screw on assembly connects, but no change.

I could be chasing two separate issues when I talk about front blinker not working and the dash left blinker light not working, but I feel there related.

I should mention having hazard lights on has same results. rear left blinks and all of right works fine. no dash bulb on left and front left do not

Found issue. Connection to steering column. Cleaned up connector on LGN wire to steering column. Blinker works fine & bulb in dash flash. Blinker with headlight switch on works correctly also.
