Power steering pump end play?
« on: August 15, 2019 - 03:07:53 AM »
My ps pump has about 1/16 end play. Is this normal? I cant see if its leaking due to some other major leaks.

I'm current replacing the timing chain, wobbly balancer and sealing up many leaks and doing a general tighten and clean up on everything.

Also has a wobbly ps pulley that may be bent uses the shaft can bend? Or it could be because the balancer is wobbly.

My initial reaction was to say "no" but it kind of depends where this 1/16th is coming from. If the pulley is moving 1/16 or the pump itself is moving 1/16 then you probably have an issue. If you are saying the belt wanders 1/16 it might be due to some slight misalignment issues.

Thanks for your reply.  It's out of the car and the shaft moves in and out it seems fine side to side.

Wheresna good place to get one and a pulley? I can get a pump locally but no pulley.  Mine may be bent.  Non numbers matching 318 beater so I'm not concerned about it being 100% historically accurate repro.

check your local salvage yards or possible swap meets if one comes up if you looking to get one on the cheap. They made a great many 318 equipped cars so there should be plenty around. Could try Ebay as well or your local Craigslist.
