Author Topic: Removing flares from 1/4 panels- use 1/4 skin patch or replace full quarters?  (Read 766 times)

I have a 70 barracuda that had rear flares put on it by previous owner. Very straight car and existing quarters are in good condition. No rust or body issues . Should I just patch in the wheel well or replace whole 1/4's? I have a reasonable amount of experience in fixing and patching rusty sheet metal in the past. Just wonder what would be the best and easiest fix?

I would start by getting the flares off and see what the damage is, If the rest of the quarters are good, then I would buy a skin and patch in where the flares were assuming this not a high dollar car that needs to be OEM correct. If it is, then new quarters are the way to go.

The car will not be all OEM as it has modifications already but it is a higher build car with a original hemi, 5 speed tremec and Dana 60 with coil over rear suspension. This is a running driving car.

Question #2 how should I position this car on jack stands before cutting and welding in new quarters if I go this route?

You are probably going get a lot of comments about bracing and such but I will tell you that you could leave it on the ground and be fine, that said I would put it on stands only so I could operate without the tires in the way.

Put the car on stands under the frt and rear suspensions, that way it's supported the same way as it rides the road. That's good advice to see what you've got left before deciding on a course of action.  :cheers:
